Promising Young Woman is a dark thriller movie directed by Emerald Fennell as her debut. Cassie is a young 30-year-old medical school dropout who lives with her family while working at a cafe. She is unsteady, haunted by her past as she tries to navigate through life. Her best friend Nina ended up committing suicide after being assaulted by her classmate Al at a party. Al faced no consequences and was let go with a slap in the wrist, but Nina ended up losing her life and a promising future ahead. This movie is Cassie’s attempt to avenge the death and rape of her best friend Nina. Because at the end it takes the death of a promising young woman to get the nice guy pay the prices for his actions.
It portrays the themes of forgiveness; vengeance and embraces femininity to its fullest with its candy colors and pop theme songs. It holds up a mirror exposing the ground reality and deep-rooted misogyny that turns a blind eye to the voice and a promising future of the victim.
