It revolves around the lives of four sisters- Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth who are left look after themselves while their father is serving in the American Civil War. Driven by poverty and ambition they try to navigate their own paths in life. Jo tries to become an author and enter into a very male dominated field, all daughters of the March family face similar adversities in life.
This movie portrays the transition of these women from the springtime of life to their adulthood. Each woman is determined to live life in their own terms despite the social stigma at that time.
